The shortage of computer chips that we are currently experiencing will last at least until the summer. AMD CEO Lisa Su indicated this in conversation with stock market analysts. Only from the second half of this year will computer chip manufacturers be able to meet demand again.
At the moment, demand is many times higher than what computer chip manufacturers can supply, resulting in shortages. The reason for the high demand can be found in the corona pandemic: due to the many home workers who have been added and the acceleration that companies have initiated in their digitalization. Chip manufacturers are seeing high demand in all divisions: from CPUs to the chips that go into games computers. The chips that go into cheaper PCs are particularly difficult to find.
Chip manufacturer AMD had a record turnover of around 9.7 billion dollars in 2020, 45 percent more than in 2019. Profits have increased by no less than 630 percent compared to 2019. Profits and turnover could have been even higher if production capacity had been higher.
We will continue to experience inconvenience from these delivery problems for the time being, but we are happy to work with you to find suitable solutions.
